Why CBD for skin care?
At Cleopatra we’ve been dedicated to CBD and the thriving Cannabis wellness industry in Portland, Oregon since 2018. This year I decided to launch a skincare line after discovering the many benefits that CBD has to offer our skin. CBD can help give you a youthful, radiant and blemish free complexion on top of everything else we already knew and practiced when it comes to CBD and wellness.
While aware of its benefits for stress relief and anti-anxiety I knew little about its other benefits. So I began researching CBD’s benefits for skin care. I was really impressed with the multitude of skin ailments that CBD helps to relieve.
For example, “CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep” (https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/cannabidiol-cbd-what-we-know-and-what-we-dont-2018082414476).
But did you know that CBD also does this!?
- helps fight inflammation
- regulates the secretion of excess oils and wax from the sebaceous glands
- promotes youthful skin
- speeds up the healing process
- prevents damage caused by pollution and sun
CBD it turns out is known as an anti-inflammatory which is perfect for combating blemishes, eczema and psoriasis by soothing inflamed skin. How does it work? Your skin has its own endocannabinoid system onto which CBD can bind directly when applied to the skin. This makes it a very effective anti-inflammatory agent when it comes to pampering your skin. Cleopatra also uses eco-certified hemp seed oil because hemp seed oil is high in essential fatty acids (Omegas 6 and 3) and adding Omega 3s to your health plan has been proven to reduce inflammation.
“Dr. Nima Gharavi, dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon at the Cedars-Sinai Cosmetic Dermatology Program, says CBD may play a role in hydrating the skin and have anti-inflammatory effects, so using a product that contains CBD might help with treating dry skin or certain inflammatory skin disorders”(https://www.cedars-sinai.org/blog/cbd-beauty-products.html).
How can it fight acne? It has also been suggested that hemp oil can contribute to stronger skin that is more resistant to viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. CBD may also fight acne as it helps your skin reduce the production of sebum which is an oily, waxy substance produced by your body's sebaceous glands.
CBD is also believed to promote healthy youthful skin due to its antioxidant properties which help to speed up the healing process and prevent tissue damage caused by environmental factors such as sun and pollution. The antioxidants in CBD are another way that topical use can lessen the signs of aging. CBD counteracts free-radical damage and reduces the look of inflammation.
This is why CBD rich moisturizers such our Hydrating Face Moisturizer and Nightwear Cream visibly diminish issues like wrinkles, fine lines, ruddy complexion and dryness. It’s important to use a product with a high CBD content in order to reap the benefits. We use a minimum of 300mg of CBD in each of our products so that you actually receive the benefits not just the hype.
